Vassil Valtchev has earned International renown as maker of superb violas. Although he makes other instruments too, it appears that he has a particular affinity for violas and a grasp of their particular tonal properties. All Valtchev's violas speak with robust and open tone, a pleasure to play on, which accounts for their popularity among the world's professional musicians.

This particular instrument was brought from Bulgaria earlier in 2000. It is characterized by an exceptionally fine selection of wood and immaculate workmanship. What impresses particularly is the very elegant and crisp Fs and the execution of the purfling - really fine work showing a skilled and steady hand. The somewhat open-grain in the top also greatly facilitates overtone production. As in this case, Valtchev always supplies a certificate along with each of his instruments in which he states precisely where the wood comes from that was used in the instrument.

This instrument is noted for its big and robust tone. It speaks easily and is clear and even throughout the register. It has been in professional use since its making until now.
