It is a reality that the majority of commercial instruments in the world today, irrespective of their Western labelling and brand names are being manufactured in large studios in China. In many cases standards are very high and at times even surpass the standards of the so called 'good old French and German trade' instruments that dominated the world market from the late 19th century until the mid 1900s.

This cello represents very good Chinese work showing attention to detail from every perspective - from the attractive selection of materials to very refined workmanship showing attention to detail, notably in the purfling and corner work. The Fs are crisp and the scroll fluting is beautifully complete. The top is of an appealing open grain spruce. The two-piece back is of well-figured, nicely flamed oriental maple with a distinct medium curl. The ribs, neck and scroll are less flamed. Varnish is an attractive dark red-brown spirit based varnish of high transparency, beautifully complimenting the materials.

This cello is unusually responsive and well toned. It's easy and rewarding to play and would be an excellent upgrade for an advanced cellist. It is currently fitted with a new set of Pirastro Aricore strings.
